FAQ

The transparent underlays are also thinner (Triotech is 40 microns thick), which allows them to be more manageable and to be placed against the surface of the silage to be covered. This “under vacuum” effect limits air pockets between the silage film and the silage surface. This extra layer also adds a barrier to the top sheet.

Dark colors absorb more UV radiation than light colors. The result is a rise in temperature of the plastic material which leads to thermal expansion and temporarily influences the barrier properties of the film. A light film color on the outside or a protective net (which then also serves as a UV filter) can limit this effect.

The OTR (Oxygen Transmission Rate) is the measure of oxygen transfer through a surface. The lower the values are, the better the barrier properties of the silage film and therefore the lower the losses due to oxygen entering the silo through the surface of the film.

Silage film using recycled plastic in their recipe have less impact on the use of non-recyclable fossil fuel resources. High quality recycling and regranulation allows for virtually unlimited reuse of the polyethylene in Triosilo silage film.

The carbon footprint of a product refers to the greenhouse gas emissions associated with it throughout its life cycle, from the production of raw materials to its recycling and use. The calculation method is internationally standardized by the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). For the production of silage film, large differences in footprints are measured on the raw materials used. Therefore, Trioworld presents carbon footprints for the production of its products from raw material to shipment.

Post-Consumer Recycle (PCR) is plastic recycled after use by consumers. It is opposed to Post-Industrial Recycle (PIR) which is recycled plastic that has not left a production plant (industrial waste, etc.). The use of PCR plays an important role in reducing waste streams that are incinerated, landfilled or exported.

Polyethylene is the main element of silage film. It is an ethylene polymer derived from petroleum co-products of refineries.
